Artist Statement

Chadwick T. Smith was born and raised in Winnfield, a small town in northwest Louisiana. His love of the arts began in the second grade and continued through high school winning many competitions and awards along the way. In 2000 Chad moved to Ann Arbor, Michigan and while studying art at Washtenaw Community College, met Jon Onye Lockard, a renowned portait artist, inspiring teacher and mentor. Chad apprenticed with Lockard for six years in his studio and on the road, eventually earning a scholarship to the College for Creative Studies in Detroit. Smith obtained his BFA in Illustration in 2010, and is now teaching and painting himself.

Chad says:"My artwork illustrates passion, energy and emotional thoughts. I attempt to skillfully craft art that captures the likeness and spirit of each subject. Art has been a part of my life as far back as I can remember and can't see myself doing anything else."
